About

Clare Stringer

I work in wheel-thrown porcelain, stoneware and other clay. My pieces explore the contrasts between silky, pure clay and more earthy decorations with many designs featuring more obscure UK species.

I’ve always been interested in UK natural history. You don’t have to be in a tropical rainforest to experience beauty, drama and incredible wildlife stories. I love adding these to my pieces and I’m particularly keen on getting my species accurately depicted.

I’m currently studying ceramics at York College of Art and once studied biology at the University of Bristol. I live and work in York, UK.

All my materials are as sustainably-sourced as possible. I never collect moss, lichen or whale sharks – I prefer to make or paint them instead.
